Did you get offended when people would refer to you as 'a jehovah witness'?
by Pioneer Spit...oh, i mean Spirit inand correct them and say, 'no no you hump, i'm one of jehovah's witnesses', as in, 'i'm not alone fella, i'm one of many.
you mess with me, you mess with all of us.
do you not know that at any time i could summon a legion of other witnesses?'.

I have a friend who says I used to be a Jehovah.
I would hate it when they said that
I was embarassed when someone would say I was a JW. I hoped it wasn't overheard by anyone. I would get away from that person quickly and avoid them so they couldn't embarrass me again.

Announcement Letter of Russell's Death
by startingover ini found this original letter in my families archives.
don't know why the second page is discolored but it's original.. it's interesting the mention of the toga on the second page, and that they called the magazine "the tower".

Thank you for sharing this original letter. One of the many things that helped me make the decision to quit was authentic documentation. It's very impressive and hard to discredit the source. I had forgotten about the pyramid burial site, but when I read about the toga, I had to ask myself about how the witnesses began. After all, this was our leader and founder! The great Charles Taze Russell. His picture had been hanging in Kingdom Halls in the 60's and printed in publications for years. I laughed when I read he died on Halloween, burried in a toga. I started thinking, "so this is the beginning of the religion I devoted my life to?".

I hadn't seen this before. She did a good job describing growing up as a witness It still amazes me how she is describing the lives of thousands of us. Our childhoods were the exact same way. She actually quit and got shunned by her family. Thousands stayed in because of the fear of shunning.
Thanks for sharing the link!

God help me - Just finished Crisis of Conscience
by Orgull ini don't know whether to laugh or cry.. a friend lent me coc yesterday and i stayed up most of the night reading it.
it took me 13 hours and i skipped the meeting today to keep reading, i couldn't bear to put it down.. i am shocked but not surprised at how closely ray's thinking mirrors my own in some ways.
the part that hit me hardest was.... "conviction, it has no meaning or validity unless it is individual, personal.

I was shocked, angry and even hyperventilated a few times while reading CoC. But it opened my eyes and gave me the strength to walk out of the unhappy, brainwashed state I was in. When I was done with the book and made the decision I was quitting, I felt like a large, heavy, black cloud was taken off my shoulders. I was so happy my internal struggle was over. I was free.
It's been a few years since then and I enjoy life so much more now. Enjoy your life without guilt and unhappiness. Freedom is great!

They are going to have a memorial service for the 5 elders in Johnson City at the same place they have conventions there.
I hate the memorial service popularity in the dub world. It seems like a dismissal of the person's life, and an outward display to show to the congos and the public how faithful they are. The dubs need to validate their beliefs about death and faith in the "resurrection to a paradise earth" (with the same old scriptures).. They won't even give their "brothers and sisters" a proper funeral service and if the family wanted one, they could become targets of gossip and labeling among congregation members. I do feel bad for the families since they will be expected to keep their grief at a minimum to prove they are faithful to the beliefs. Their mourning period will be cut short when other dubs keep reminding them they will see their husbands and fathers soon since the big "A" is coming soon. They will have to comply to this pressure.
I was wondering, since the pilot was a "brother" also, did he own the private plane or did they rent the plane? If they rented it, who paid for it? Brooklyn absolutely has the money to pay for it, but I doubt they would. Does the money come out the contribution box where people give specifically from the Kingdom Hall Building funds? I don't think that people expect the "builds" include private plane service.
